She Who Doodles

This summer has been such a great learning experience.  Knowing I was retiring at the end of summer I schedule a lot of weekend outdoor Art Sales.  Although at times I felt a little defeated I gained so much experience. I tried sales I had never done before,  some a hit and some a miss.  A couple of Portland Street Fairs, a couple with a local group I recently joined, a Friday Art Walk and a winery I enjoy just for the venue.  Each has been a learning experience. My booth at the Belmont Street Fair yesterday. Not that I wouldn't do any of them again but I would definitely sell differently.  The best sales for me have been the juried art shows.  But on the other hand by finding some smaller items at lower prices I hit a market I hadn't reached before. I added my Zen Rocks this summer and always sell at least a dozen at each sale.  They appeal to the kids and so many of the outdoor markets are family oriented, especially the neighborhoo...

This coming Saturday I will be doing my first of the summer season outdoor market.  This one is local, out in the rural community of Hockinson, just outside Vancouver.  I picked a day that coincides with their annual Hockinson Fun Days, so I'm hoping for a good crowd and no rain.  Here is one of my new pieces, framed and ready to sell.  I'm trying some different frames,  I've always leaned towards the black  but thought I'd try the red for a change,  I think I like it.  My new batch of temporary tattoos arrived, so I will have them for sale.  I chose some small designs this time, it's always good to have some inexpensive items for sale.   Well, lots to do this week and only four days to get ready.  Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend.  We had the nastiest downpour yesterday afternoon, during our birthday celebration for my son in laws 50th.   But we live in the northwest and rain is what it does here,...

Nothing dark and sinister, just trying something new.  I was asked awhile back if I ever did my doodles in color, I had not,  I really liked the sharp black and white contrast.  But I thought maybe it was time to try it to see how it felt.  Because everything about doodling is about how it feels.   Here's a little sample of my first color project.  What do you think?   I  only used 3 colors, navy, purple and brown.  Then finished some of the design by outlining the shapes in black. It's interesting how ones art evolves over time.  My current style of doodles is quite different then when I first started.  Everything had a  triangular shape, and clustered tightly. I've changed pens several times  and also change according to the size of journal I am using at the time.
